St Michaels just miss out in high-scoring final with Dungarvan CBS
CORN EAMAINN UÍ MHÁIRTÍN UNDER 15 ‘C’ FINAL Dungarvan CBS 2-16 St Michaels, Listowel 0-17
JOHN Dillon and Louise Scanlon have put a lot of work into this Listowel team and it showed.
This was a brilliant contest between two top quality teams, with an array of skill and heart on both sides. Dungarvan had the better start in Páirc Uí Caoimh to lead by 1-4 to 0-1. However, Listowel refused to buckle and showed great heart to draw level, 1-5 to 0-8, at half-time.
Robert Heffernan, Eoin Dowling, Darragh O’Keeffe, Conor Sweeney, Eddie Healy, and Cormac Dillon were standouts in a great overall team display. Dungarvan again opened brightly on the restart with four points on-the-trot.
They were able to maintain that lead throughout the third quarter but again a great Listowel fightback clawed the gap back to one point. Dungarvan got in for a great goal with 12 minutes to go and, despite a heroic effort from every player, Listowel could not just trim the gap back.
The Munster U15 C Cup is back in Dungarvan – the last time they won it, back in 1991, it was Eamainn himself who trained the winning team. Congratulations to both sides on a sumptuous feast of football, one that was played in a manner to give great credit to both sides.
