Christmas Message from Cathaoirleach of Listowel Municipal District

-

SEASON’S Greetings to one and all. Christmas is always a time to reflect on the year gone by and to look forward to the year ahead. And what a great year 2019 has been for Listowel.

In July we welcomed the judges in The Entente Florale competition and they were suitably impressed by the display Listowel put on that day. This resulted in Listowel achieving a silver medal at the awards ceremony in Austria in September.

Local festivals also grew in the past year. Revival was once again a huge success and was held over two nights for the first time. Listowel Writers’ Week and Listowel Races continue to draw huge numbers and an economic boost to the area. Listowel Food Fair celebrated 25-years and was once again a big success. All these events and groups cannot take place without the organisation and volunteers involved and they should be commended.

We look forward with confidence and enthusiasm to further positive developments in the town in 2020. The extension of The Great Southern Greenway and the development of Listowel Food Hub, both of which received funding in 2019, will be progressed significantly towards completion in 2020.

I would encourage you to support local businesses when you are shopping this Christmas. Every euro spent locally helps to support the local economy and keep people employed locally.

Christmas is a time to relax and be with family and to prepare for the coming year. Best wishes to everyone for a peaceful and happy Christmas season.

Cathaoirleach of Listowel MD, Cllr Jimmy Moloney.
