The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)

Plenty going on in St John’s Theatre & Arts Centre this Christmas...

-

ST John’s Theatre & Arts Centre is an important social space for the people of Listowel and North Kerry that takes on a life of its own at Christmas. There are lots of events taking place in St John’s Theatre in the run up to Christmas Day and here’s a sample:

Mike Hanrahan, guitarist and singer of Stockton’s Wing, will be in St John’s on Thursday, December 5. Mike’s memoir ‘Beautiful Affair’, which has been shortlisted for this year’s Irish Book of the Year, will tell his life story from his beginnings in County Clare to his love of music and food. Mike will also sing a few songs and provide patrons with some lovely recipes for Christmas.

Christmas is all about Children and at St John’s Theatre Jo Jordan from Theatrix will be presenting two wonderful plays starring all her young super star dramatists that attend her classes every week. There will be the much loved ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ featuring her younger actors from age 4-12. This is one of the great musicals and it’s not to be missed.

For the older age group there’s ‘Lord of the Flies’ which will showcase the wonderful talent of young adults ages 14-18 years. And, of course, St John’s will present the annual Christmas Panto which takes place on December 12 & 13 with performances at 10am and 11.30am (both days). This year’s panto is ‘Santa’s Sooty Christmas’ and is presented by Centre Stage.

For art lovers everywhere, Colourful Spirits will host an exhibition in St John’s for the month of December. This collaborative art show by will explore the diverse range of tactile artworks in mixed media, covering themes ranging from folklore to spirituality.
