It’s a busy Christmas at Kerry Writers’ Museum

-

‘TIS the season for all things cultural and creative at Kerry Writers’ Museum in Listowel where that Christmas feeling is already well underway. It’s a busy time for the museum with a variety of events and activities the whole family can enjoy.

Why not take a trip down memory lane on Thursday, December 5 at 8 pm with local historian Vincent Carmody in a photographic Journey of old Listowel from 1870 to 1970. Vincent will recount stories of local characters and places with accompanying photographs as featured in his acclaimed publication ‘Listowel – Snapshot of an Irish Market Town’. This event is organised in association with Listowel & District Historical Society and supported by Kerry ETB.

Friday, December 13 features a special festive concert with Lixnaw born mezzo soprano Leanne Fitzgerald and poet Gabriel Fitzmaurice for an evening of song & poetry. Doors are open at 7.30 pm for a pre-concert reception with some seasonal treats.

Santa & Mrs. Claus return to Kerry Writers’ Museum on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 of December from 1 to 4 pm each day to meet all the boys and girls from North Kerry and beyond. And while you are waiting for the big moment enjoy some hot chocolate, face painting and other seasonal treats in the café. As Santa’s time at the Museum is limited, children are asked to book in advance to make sure they don’t miss out.

A festive edition of Poetry in the Park will take place at the Museum on Sunday, December 15 from 2.30 pm. All writers, readers, singers and storytellers are invited along to perform; or just come to listen and enjoy a feast of words.

Listowel Christmas Rambling House will move from its usual Thursday night slot to Sunday, December 29 from 3 to 6 pm. If you have not already been to this monthly event, come along for a great afternoon of traditional Irish music, song, dance & storytelling in an informal setting. Admission is free and a cup of tea and some festive treats will be provided to all who attend.

There’s a chance to dust off your dancing shoes and come along to the set céilí on Sunday, January 5 from 3 to 6 pm for an afternoon of set dancing. Music will be provided by Carrigkerry’s own Donie Nolan and the sets will be called by Athea dance master, Timmy Woulfe. Tea and light refreshments will be served and tickets are available at the door.

Christmas at Kerry Writers’ Museum culminates with a special evening on Monday, January 6 to celebrate Nollaig na mBán or Women’s Christmas. The event, which commences at 7pm, will be a celebration of women in poetry, story and song.
