The Fianna Fail Councillor said the grants will greatly enhance existing facilities throughout County Kerry. The Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme is a wonderful scheme and I am particularly pleased that the purchase of 5 Beach Wheelchairs are included in this year’s Programme of Works as this is something that I personally campaigned for," stated Mr Cahill. The purchases of 5 new Beach Wheelchairs including two Hippocampe and three Water Wheels at Rossbeigh, Maharees, Ballyheigue, Fenit and Ballybunion beaches total €9,309.60

CALL FOR SAFETY IMPROVEMENT AT JUNCTION

A Fianna Fail County Councillor has called for a major Safety Improvement Scheme and Sight Improvement Works to be carried out at a Death Trap Junction. Councillor Michael Cahill raised the dangerous busy junction at Tullig Cross Lower on the busy Cromane road, Killorglin at a recent meeting of the Council. Speaking at the meeting, the Glenbeigh Councillor said, I am aware of numerous accidents at this location and I am calling on Kerry County Council and the Department of Transport to act as a matter of extreme urgency, before a life is lost or someone is seriously injured at this dangerous junction." "This is a very busy road that caters for the greater Cromane area, Dooks Golf Links and the Fishing industry in Cromane with large Lorries using the road on a weekly basis," stated the Fianna Fail man. Mr Cahill said he did not accept the Road Safety Authority’s statistics and said the reason that they are not accurate, is as a result of the accidents not being reported to An Garda Siochana.

Padraic Teahan, Senior Roads Engineer with Kerry County Council gave the following response .This location will be considered for submission to the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport under the Safety Improvement Scheme. The accident statistics mapped by the Road Safety Authority on their Online Map of Collisions in Ireland which is available for public viewing indicate that over the period from 2005 to 2016 two road traffic accidents took place in the vicinity of this junction, with both accidents occurring in 2005.
