HANDED DOWN

Matt Crannitch is a frequent and regular visitor to the Handed Down sessions in the Sliabh Luachra Heritage Centre in Scartaglen and the Corkman is back again on Saturday night next December 7 when he will make a presentati­on entitled “Saying Goodbye to 1969”, which deals with bringing down the curtain on the 50th Anniversar­y of the release of the album “The Star Above the Garter” featuring Denis Murphy and Julia Clifford. Matt will play tribute to Denis and Julia, with special guests and rare recordings.

Matt has placed fierce importance on this event and requested to be moved from his usual January date. As a thank you to all our loyal supporters there will be free booklets at the door from this years anniversar­y concert which is now available to view online under the title World Fiddle Day Concert Scartaglen 2019.

Guests on Saturday December 7th are singer Noelle Barrett Neziri ; trio Mike Rice, Mairead Corridan and Gearoid Keating ; Kenmare based quartet Mary Donegan, Noreen O Shea, Nick Urwin and Dave Shapiro. Young musicians ; 9 year old fiddle player Oisin O Connor, Cullen , Co Cork. U12 All Ireland Concertina winner Eabha Murphy, Ovens, Co Cork and a group of students Sine Fogarty, Ballybunio­n ; Aoibheann Buckley, Ballybunio­n ; Marie Flynn ; Emma Flynn, Templeglan­tine ; Emma Crowley, Killorglin ; Breean Cunningham, Glin from music teacher Maura O Connor, Abbeyfeale. Starting time of 8pm.

RAMBLING HOUSE

The Christmas Rambling House will be staged at Scartaglen Heritage Centre on Monday night next December 9 commencing at 8pm. This get together will have a festive flavour and admission as always is free with a raffle and refreshmen­ts on the night. All are welcome.

WINNING STREAK

Congratula­tions to John Reidy of Dromulton who did very well on RTEs Winning Streak programme on Saturday last. In addition to winning some cash, John also scooped a holiday to the value of E3,000, so all I all it was a successful day out for the Dromulton man.

COFFEE MORNING

Mary Horan and friends would like to thank all who supported the Cups for Brest Cancer coffee morning in The Heritage Centre Scartaglen on October 27th. To the local businesses for their support and a huge thank you to all who donated baking and monetary contributi­ons for this worthy cause. Amount raised €4,640.

Congratula­tions and all best wishes are extended to Catherine O Connor daughter of Julianne and John O Connor of Counguilla and Dan O Sullivan son of Lil and Dan O Sullivan of Adriville who announced their engagement last week.

VARIETY CONCERT

Sliabh Luachra Active Retired Network organised a very successful and enjoyable fundraisin­g concert in Scartaglen Heritage Centre on Friday night last. Nice to see young local talent on display at this particular function. A word of thanks is due to all who supported the concert and those who helped out in any way to make the event a great success.

FLORAL DEMONSTRAT­ION

Kathleen Reidy is hosting a wonderful pre Christmas Floral Demonstrat­ion in aid of Recovery Haven Kerry Cancer Support House on this Thursday evening December 5th in The River Island Hotel Casteislan­d commencing at 8pm. Your support would be appreciate­d.

AFTERNOON OF PRAYER

John Delaney will be present in Our Lady of Lourdes Church Scartaglen for the final Afternoon of Prayer of 2019 on Sunday December 15. The Rosary as usual will get the prayer afternoon underway at 2.30pm and all are welcome.

SUNDAY NIGHT DANCING

Bernie Heaney and Boz (ex Mike Denver) will provide the entertainm­ent for the Sunday Night Dance in The Heritage Centre Scartaglen on Sunday December 8. Dancing 9pm to 11.30pm. Admission is E10 with a free draw on the door ticket. GAA LOTTO DRAW

Scartaglen GAA Clubs next Lotto Draw will be on this Saturday night December 7 in Kearneys Bar, Castleisla­nd at 11.30pm when the jackpot will be E8,600. Those asked to supervise the draw are: Philip O Connell, Joe Tangney and John Murphy.

GREYHOUND RACING

A local winner at Limerick Greyhound Stadium recently was “Lubagh Kirsty” who clocked 29.14 when scoring for Stuart Welford of Mount and trainer John P O Sullivan of Knockrour and the odds were a generous 5/1.
