Marian Players to perform ‘The Old Woman who Lived in a Shoe’

-

IT’S fair to say the time of year wouldn’t have the same feel to it without the contribution of the Marian Players and their excellent panto productions. The 2020 show is ‘The Old Woman who Lived in a Shoe’ and if rehearsals are anything to go by it is not to be missed.

If you’re looking for a way to beat the post-Christmas blues then you might want to note the following dates: January 25, 29 and 30, (matinee on Sunday 26th). The show continues into February with performances on the 1 and 2 including a matinee. All night shows start at 8pm and the proceeds from the panto will go to the Kerry Parents’ & Friends Association.

‘The Old Woman who Lived in a Shoe’ is a pantomime full of all the well-known nursery rhyme characters. You’ll get to meet the old woman who lives in a shoe and her many children, as well as the evil and crooked man, Eli Bent, and his crony, Doctor Foster. Take a trip to Eli Bent’s secret laboratory which results in the heroes being transformed into monsters and leads to a very funny chase scene.

The Marian Players have a fantastic tradition of putting on a good show and a man who knows a thing or two about pantomime is Val Moynihan.

“Preparations are going very well and this will be our 33rd production. We’re part of the furniture at this stage! The fact it’s running this long tells you it’s a very enjoyable event,” said Val.

“Overall we have about 70 children and 50 adults taking part, which tells you something of its appeal and popularity. We have members from across Rathmore and into north Cork. I started Marian Players from day one and while it took a while to find its feet, it’s now a very energetic group. We’re also delighted to be a support group for Kerry Parents’ & Friends who do great work,” said Val. Follow the local parish notes for updates about times and ticket information.
