Sounds of the West on Raidió na Gaeltachta Christmas schedule

POETS, writers and musicians from Corca Dhuibhne will feature strongly in the Raidió na Gaeltachta Christmas schedule, starting on this Friday when Helen Ní Shé and the An Saol ó Dheas team will have a special programme from Dingle with live music and lots of prizes, as well as the low-down on Christmas bargains around the town.

On Saturday, December 21, at 7 pm, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh will present the penultimat­e edition of Malairt Poirt le Muireann for which she will be joined by Méabh Ní Bheaglaoic­h to launch her new single. Meabh will be back on the air at 7pm on Monday, December 30, along with her father Séamus and Donogh Hennessy, who were among the stellar cast of musicians recorded at the Sruth na Maoile concert in Ennis.

DJ Cian Ó Cíobháin’s An Taobh Tuathail will have a special show on Christmas Eve at 10pm to help ease listeners into the big day ahead.

Then, after the turkey is eaten and digested, two Kerry legends will be remembered in special editions of An

Saol ó Dheas on December 26 and 27 at 12.08 pm. On St Stephen’s Day the show will have highlights from a celebratio­n of the life and work of Maidhc Dainín Ó Sé, which took place as part of the recent Dingle Literary Festival. And on December 27 singer Seán de hÓra from Cloichear will be remembered 30 years after his death.

A new literary series focused on the life and work of 10 Irish-language authors, Saol agus Saothar Deichniúr údar Gaeilge, will feature Kerry writer Seán Ó Luing on Tuesday, December 31, at 1.30pm. And Aodh Ó Domhnaill, a Dublin writer who spent several years living in Baile Eaglaise before his death in January 2018, will be celebrated in a special programme on Saturday, December 28, at 10am.

Sinéad Ní Uallacháin, Áine Ní Bhreisleái­n and Siún Ní Dhuinn, will have a festive episode of their Beo ar Éigean podcast on Saturday, December 28, at 11.08am, and that night at 7pm Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh will play her choice of music from 2019 in the final episode of Malairt Poirt le Muireann.
