Staying warm is key to a great winter wedding

-

WHILE a winter wedding can be a spectacular time to get married it does require some basic planning and preparation when it comes to chilly weather. Winter weddings inevitably mean lots of colour and vibrancy but don’t let the small matter of colder days slip your thoughts. This applies to the bride, bridesmaids and wedding guests as provision must be made to help combat the cold with a personal and even creative touch.

For example, when choosing your bridesmaids dresses the colour and style will immediately dominate your thought process. However, make sure you also have some dressy pashminas and cardigans on standby as nothing will take away from the beauty of those wedding photos quite like the sight of bridesmaids bunched together as they smile through chattering teeth.

Cover is necessary in winter so don’t be worried that an accessory will take from the good look of the dress as there’s many options you can choose that look trendy and stylish, even quirky. In fact, winter is perfect for accessories such as vintage coats, trendy tweed waistcoats, matching tartan throws, even short denim jackets have been used to keep the Goosebumps at bay during photo sessions.

The same winter prep principle applies to guests. At some point throughout the day they will need to pop out to the car, or perhaps for a cigarette. A nice touch here is to have a basket of folded blankets and shawls to hand that they can throw over their shoulders to keep warm. You could also have an umbrella stand at the hotel doorway where guests can pick up a brolly for a few minutes when venturing outside. These are all simple and inexpensive ideas that will go a long way to making guests feel more comfortable. Winter weddings undoubtedly give rise to romantic ceremonies, but logic must also prevail and keeping warm and comfy is the key to overall enjoyment.
