KILLARNEY LEGION

-

DR O’DONOGHUE CUP FINAL: Killarney Legion 1-18 Dr Crokes 3-06 Killarney Legion proudly reclaimed our own Dr. O’ Donoghue Cup with an emphatic win over our great town rivals Dr. Crokes on Sunday last. Legion took to the field in Fitzgerald Stadium with a steely determination that saw them take the game to Dr. Crokes. Played in wintry conditions, one would have expected that scores would have been to a minimum but that was not to be the case. Playing with the assistance of a slight breeze Legion went to the dressing rooms with a well deserved five point lead. Legion 0-09 Dr. Crokes 0-04.

The expected second-half fight-back from the Crokes never materialised from the outset, as Legion raced into a ten point lead with five unanswered points in the opening five minutes of the half. A goal by Crokes was quickly negated by Legion’s on form Tom Moriarty and two further goals for the Crokes were not enough to catch this Legion side. Despite these three goals Legion never looked to be in any trouble and saw out the game to finish with a comfortable lead of six points. Stephen Stack and Pat Flanagan can only be delighted with their charges in the manner in which they set about the task despite what has been a long and drawn out season. Kieran Slattery picked up the Man of the Match Award which was richly deserved on the day. A big well done to a great bunch of players, management and supporters who turned out in huge numbers. We look forward with optimism to 2020.
