Tralee ready to ring in the New Year in style

- By SIMON BROUDER

TRALEE is shaping up to be one of the best spots in Kerry to ring in the New Year with the family.

It’s hard to believe we reached the end of the year already, and also the end of another decade as we get ready to enter the roaring 20’s

The best way to end a decade is to give it a major send off, and cheer in the new year with a big street party, and the party starts early in Tralee.

The festivities in the county capital will get underway from 5pm on Tuesday, December 31 with a free concert on Denny Street by UV5 one of the UK and Europe’s leading disco acts.

UV5 will be playing from 5pm to 7pm with a break at 6pm for a firework display that will light up the skies over the Ashe Hall.

The celebration has been organised by Tralee Chamber Alliance with support from Kerry County Council; lead-sponsor Cara Credit Union and additional support from Borg Warner, Yummy Café and Manor West Retail Park.

“The live band are fantastic fun, and definitely for all ages. By starting early, we give a chance for everyone to come down and get something to eat or do some shopping, before heading off to Denny Street for the party at 5pm, and once the street party is over it means the kids can be dropped home in time for moms and dads to maybe hit the town to celebrate some more,” said Ken Tobin of Tralee Chamber Alliance.

Organisers recommend getting to Denny Street early. The street (from Park Lane around to Ivy Terrace) will be closed to traffic from 4pm.
