Tractors on the road for Killorglin family
FUNDRAISER TO HELP RAISE MONEY FOR THE MITTIN FUND WHICH HELPS CHILDREN WITH RARE LEIGHS DISEASE
THERE was plenty colour and machinery to be seen between Castleisland and Killorglin on Saturday as the public came out to show their support for a very worthy cause.
A machinery run left Castleisland Mart on Saturday morning in aid of ‘The Mitten Fund’, which is supporting a family in the Killorglin area, a family who recently received the devastating news that their one-year-old daughter is terminally ill with Leigh’s Disease.
The run went towards Farranfore and Killarney before heading on for Killorglin, where there was children’s entertainment and raffle-ticket sales aplenty. Organising-committee member Feral Ashworth said the day raised over €500 for a great cause.
“We had about 20 motorbikes, and I’m not sure how many tractors,” Feral told The
Kerryman in thanking those who took part and those who donated to the cause.
“The kids certainly had a great day especially, and ‘A Time to Play’ gave their services free in providing plenty children’s entertainment in The Fishery, Killorglin.
“Most people finished up in Killorglin, but a few motorcyclists went on as far as Glenbeigh.
“We also did really well in terms of donations,” she said.
Another fundraiser is set to take place in The Fishery on Saturday from 1pm, and a few hardy souls have agreed to take place in a shave-and-wax event in aid of The Mitten Fund.
A raffle will also take place on the day, with tickets on sale in shops in Cahersiveen, Killorglin, Farranfore, and Firies.
The public is welcome to come along on the day or get in touch with Feral at (087) 196 0782.
