Second death following Kilcummin collision
A SECOND person has died following a two-car collision in Kilcummin earlier this month.
Mary Kelliher – who lived in Leamnaguilla, Kilcummin, but was from Knockdurath, Killarney – passed away on Saturday (January 18) following the incident at Finnegan’s Cross on January 9. She was a passenger in a car driven by her husband, Eddie, who was pronounced dead after being transferred to University Hospital Kerry following the collision.
The driver of the other car was discharged from hospital last week.
Labour Councillor Marie Moloney, a neighbour to Eddie and Mary, said the locality is devastated.
“They were quiet people, very well-liked in the community,” she said. “They were honest-to-God country people: reserved, friendly, and wellliked.
“It’s devastating for the locality. It was terrible enough to lose one person, but now we’ve lost a second. Everyone is in a state of shock.”
Cllr Moloney expressed her deepest sympathies to the Kelliher family and said they are in the community’s thoughts.
Reposal will take place in O’Shea’s Funeral Home, Killarney, from 4pm to 6pm today (January 22), with removal thereafter to the Church of St Gertrude, Firies. Requiem Mass takes place at 11am tomorrow, followed by Burial in Kilquane Graveyard, Barraduff, Killarney.
Anyone with information about the incident, which took place at around 6.45am, is asked to contact Killarney Garda station at (064) 667 1160; the confidential line at 1800 666 111; or any station.
