Dan Tim not giving up on Rossbeigh ambitions

- By TADHG EVANS

KERRY-UK businessman Dan Tim O’Sullivan has told The Kerryman he has not given up on plans to construct six dwelling houses in Rossbeigh, despite An Bord Pleanála overturning Kerry County Council’s (KCC) decision to grant him planning permission.

Mr O’Sullivan said he and others involved in the project will meet next week to discuss the situation, but he intends to re-apply.

Con and Dan Tim O’Sullivan lodged an application almost a year ago to demolish an existing dwelling house in Rossbeigh and construct six detached dwelling houses on the half-hectare site. The local authority approved the application subject to 12 conditions.

Dermot Ivo O’Sullivan and Kay O’Sullivan; and Eileen Cahill appealed the decision, however. In her grounds of appeal, Ms Cahill, who owns and operates Rossbeigh Beach Cottages, said the project would interrupt the views from her cottages and put her business in jeopardy. Dermot Ivo and Kay O’Sullivan’s appeal said the plans were contrary to the Rossbeigh Local Area Plan, and agreed with Ms Cahill that the development would be too visually obtrusive.

The board, in refusing permission, said the applicant hadn’t submitted sufficient information; felt the proposal would be “unduly dominant”; and said that granting permission would be at odds with good road-safety measures.

“We’ll have to try and get it [planning permission] anyway,” Dan Tim O’Sullivan told The Kerryman this week.

“We [those involved in the project] are going to have a meeting there next week and have a look at it [the situation].”

Mr O’Sullivan declined to comment on the board decision itself.
