Dóchas drama group ready to tread the boards next week

- By FERGUS DENNEHY

IT’S been a very busy week for all involved in the Dóchas Drama Group here in town as they celebrated the first two nights of their brand-new run of plays.

Never fear, though, as those who have not yet had the chance to see the group performing will have further chances tonight (Wednesday, January 22) and tomorrow night (January 23) to catch the 17-strong cast in action.

Performing in the Killarney Avenue Hotel at 8pm on both nights, the events will consist of a series of 10-minute plays.

Speaking to The Kerryman on Friday ahead of opening night, the chairperson of the group, Liz Ryan, said that rehearsals have been going well for the shows, as she divulged a few more details on what audience can expect from the night’s on-stage capers.

“We put out a call for 10-minute plays, and we did the same sort of thing last year and it was very popular with audiences,” she said.

“We have local writers and we have a writer from America, and also someone from Dublin, so all their plays have been selected.

“There’s a mixture of everything. There’s comedy, there are things that have very strong story-lines and, generally, they all reflect on life and that sort of thing,” Ms Ryan continued.

“There will be no more than four people in each play, so some people will be in two different plays or three different plays. It will definitely be a very entertaining night,” she added.

The plays set to be performed on the night are:

- ‘Going Home’ by Scott Mullon

- ‘Needs Must’ by Brian Bowler

- ‘By A Nose’ by Mary McCarthy

- ‘Pilates’ by Michael Mills

- ‘Rooms’ by Liz Ryan

- ‘My Scale is Lying To Me’ by Scott Mullon - ‘A Little Magic’ by Scott Mullon

- ‘Cake’ by Sadie Delaney

Tickets for the show can be purchased on the night for €10.
