Kerry Airport’s numbers grow

-

KERRY Airport has reported an increase of 1.2 per cent in passenger numbers in 2019, despite some challenging conditions according to figures published by the Farranfore facility.

Meanwhile it was also confirmed that it is increasing the frequency of its Kerry-Alicante route this summer.

Passengers planning a trip to Spain’s Costa Blanca will have three flights to choose from in June, July and August – a 50 per cent increase on 2019 – in addition to the scheduled flights during

April, May, September and October.

Kerry Airport CEO, John Mulhern, said the numbers passing through the airport had increased significantly last year.

“Nearly 370,000 passengers travelled through Kerry Airport in 2019 which represents an increase of almost 4,500 passengers. There was growth of one per cent on our two London routes in defiance of being under the Brexit cloud throughout the year,” said Mr Mulhern

“The Berlin and Frankfurt Hahn routes continue to perform very well and we welcome Ryanair’s decision to extend the Berlin route through the summer of 2020. This underlines the importance of Wild Atlantic Kerry as a destination for the German tourist market,” Mr Mulhern said.

“Dublin showed continued growth year-onyear with increased capacity on the route with Aer Lingus Regional now operating a 70-seater aircraft twice daily,” said the airport boss.

“I wish to thank the Department for Transport,

Tourism and Sport and Minister of State, Brendan Griffin’s continued advocacy of our regional airport as vital to the economy and the people of the county and the region,” he said.

Mr Mulhern concluded by saying that efforts continue to attract new routes.

“Work on securing additional new routes is on-going with Kerry Airport’s airline partners, Kerry County Council, Tourism Ireland and the tourism organisations in Kerry,” said John Mulhern.
