Greaney gets Windmill winner

DENNY DIVISION 1B Windmill United 1 Inter Kenmare 0

WINDMILL United’s great vein of form continued at the KDL on Sunday with a hard earned win over Inter Kenmare.

The game in general was a rather tame affair with neither goalkeeper given much to do over the 90 minutes.

Inter Kenmare started very brightly spraying the ball around with great precision but when it came to the final third of the pitch their attacks were breaking down on a regular basis.

For their part Windmill were using their greater physicality to good effect and were mastering everything in the air and were very dangerous from any type of a set piece situation.

While scoring chances were few and far between the goal that won the game was of the very highest calibre.

Inter had a great early chance to go ahead when Daniel Kovac got in behind the Windmill defence but he just pulled his shot narrowly wide.

Down the other end Windmill put a good attack together with David Rusk setting up David Kerins but his shot did not have sufficient power to bother the Inter goalie Colin Reilly.

Gyalso Sangye was the play maker for Inter at midfield and his shot from distance in the 7th minute went over the top

Another half chance arrived afterwards but Daniel Kovac could not keep his shot on target.

After this Windmill enjoyed much more possession and it looked as if they were going to take the lead in the 16th minute when a free kick was flicked on just outside the box into the path of George Carneige.

He steered his shot towards the bottom corner of the net and when it hit the inside of the right hand post it looked destined for the net but Peter Kovacevic miraculously managed to clear the ball from the goal line as players converged on him.

Carnegie was through on goals again shortly afterwards but he skied his effort on goal.

Inter had a couple of half chances before half time but efforts from

Gyalse Sangye from distance and another from a free kick yielded nothing.

Windmill upped their performance in the second half and were carrying a much bigger threat up front than their opponents.

The goal that won the game came in the 82nd minute and what a marvellous one it was. Paudie Murphy was the provider, slipping the ball to Eoin Greaney who turned on to his left foot and sent a ferocious shot to the roof of the net from outside the box.

Inter went close to equalising in the 85th minute after a great move but a tremendous block by Paudie

Murphy denied Gyalse Sangye a certain goal.

It was a game that almost boiled over at one stage but a few yellow cards by referee Tom O’Sullivan restored order.

Windmill will be very satisfied with their win while Inter will be disappointed but they have plenty of matches to make up ground on the leading title contenders in this division.
