The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
LACE UP YER BOOTS FOR PANTO
COME meet Nana Rose, Baron Bootblack, Bert and Barney Buckle and many more of the dazzling cast in this year’s Rathmore Panto.
The final touches are being put in place for what promises to be a wonderful production of the famous story of ‘The Old Woman who Lived in a Shoe’.
Renovations in the community centre delayed the show this year for some days but, fear not, the production is going to be bigger and better than ever – and will have the audience in stitches.
The first show takes place this Saturday, and the cast behind the production is sure to bring to life the tale of the ‘old woman’ aka Nanny Rose and her 25 children. These include Molls, Texas, Alice, Millstreet and Kerry Way, to name but a few – all named after locations which are favourites for the family.
The central character of Nanny Rose is played by Conor Lenihan while the baddie – in this case, Baron Bootblack – hopes to evict Nanny Rose and her children in order to get to the ‘black gold’, aka coal, underneath her shoe.
Former Kerry Rose Mary Hickey is playing the role of Baron Bootblack.
His sidekicks Bert and Barney Buckle are played by Jimmy Kelly and Brian Hickey, who is most famous for his part in a recent 1916 play but whose origins are with Rathmore Panto. He’s back again this year in panto due to popular demand.
Rathmore Panto will open this Saturday night, February 1, at 7.30pm, with a matinee on Sunday at 3pm.
There will also be shows on Wednesday and Thursday, February 5 and 6, and again on Saturday, February 8, and finishing with a matinee on
Sunday 9.
All proceeds will be donated to Kerry Parents and Friends again this year, and over the years Rathmore Pantomime have been a huge boost to their wonderful local services. Bookings are via (085) 203 1730.
