- By TADHG EVANS

KILLARNEY’S newest festival had its launch in recent days and is set to take the town by storm this coming March.

The Wander Wild Festival will take place from March 27 to 29 and boasts an eclectic choice of events covering outdoor pursuits, culture, food, and more besides.

This will be the inaugural staging of the weekend event, which will get underway with a climb to the top of Carrauntoohil via Devil’s Ladder, leaving Cronin’s Yard at 9am.

The day will also feature an opening ‘Equinox Parade’ through the town.

A host of guest speakers are lined up, the first of whom is Michael Harding, who will keep the audience at St Mary’s Church enthralled from 9pm with stories from his pilgrimage to Skellig Michael; dispatches from his books and columns; and his ongoing search for meaning. At the same venue the following night, Shane Finn, the Dingle man who has astounded us all with his athletic endeavours in raising funds for Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland, will host a live edition of his ‘Pushing Limits Podcast, with the start time again at 9pm.

The weekend’s festivities will conclude after 3pm on Sunday, March 29, with a pairs canoe orienteering event at Muckross Lake and an Innisfallen Island Kayak Tour from Ross Castle.

Between Friday and those last events, everything from skills classes, cycles, walks, boat tours, talks, hikes, runs, film, taster trails and pony treks are on the itinerary.

“The Wander Wild Festival is a really fantastic opportunity”. said organising committee chairman Pat Chawke.

“Get away for a few days, sample this awe-inspiring area and enjoy this spectacle of outdoor-related festival events,” he added.
