Kerry campaigners protest in Dublin against 5G

- By TADHG EVANS

KERRY Campaigners were among those who journeyed to Dublin on Saturday as part of a global day of protest against 5G technology.

Tralee woman Mags O’Sullivan was joined by several west Kerry campaigners. The Dublin event was part of a worldwide series of protests.

According to eir, 5G coverage is now available in Tralee town and its environs. This comes in spite of a motion by Fianna Fáil Cllr Norma Foley, who called for an independent review “of all facts relating to 5G prior to its roll out being permitted in Kerry.

The motion was carried, with 21 councillors voting in favour.

The protest got underway outside St Stephen’s Green, where talks took place on the alleged risks of the technology. A march then took place through Grafton Street and went on to Dáil Éireann.

“This protest was important to raise awareness about 5G and wireless radiation exposure and its associated risks to health, the environment and the planet,” Ms O’Sullian said.

“A large proportion of the population are unaware that 5G has already been rolled out in cities and towns across Ireland.

“There are over 10,000 scientific studies, including 3,700 peer-reviewed studies, proving biological and environmental harm from RF radiation,” she claimed, “so it is up to every person to perform their own risk assessment with regard to their own wireless radiation exposure and reduce their health risks accordingly.”

Minister Richard Bruton said that ComReg, the independent Irish telecoms regulatory authority, ensures that Ireland complies with ICNIRP (an international commission on radiation protection) guidelines.

He added that maximum frequencies for 5G are well within the limits set by the this commission.

Ms O’Sullivan, however, feels these guidelines are outdated, and claimed they “do not take into consideration the cumulative effects of microwave radiation which exists today from all wireless technologies”. She has contacted ComReg and eir in relation to the 5G roll out in Tralee.
