Na Gaeil duo likely to be recalled for Galway encounter

ALL-IRELAND club winners Jack Barry and Diarmuid O’Connor are likely to be pressed back into action this weekend when the Na Gaeil club mates are likely to be named on the Kerry panel to face Galway in the National League.

Barry and O’Connor were in action in Croke Park last Saturday, but it was for Na Gaeil in the All-Ireland Club JFC Final win over Rathgarogue-Cushinstown instead of with Kerry in their draw with Dublin.

Kerry manager Peter Keane said he would speak with the two players this week - “around Tuesday or Wednesday when things calm down” - to discuss their return to the county fold, but with Adrian Spillane picking up an ankle injury against Dublin, it’s probable that the Na Gaeil pair will be fast-tracked back into action for the visit of Galway this Saturday.

With David Moran sitting out most of the League, and now with Spillane on the treatment table, Kerry are light on natural midfielders, and Barry and O’Connor are a natural for that position.

Kerry named Spillane and Tommy Walsh at midfield for the Dublin game, although Sean O’Shea played a lot of the game in the middle sector too.

Meanwhile, Brian Ó Beaglaoich will be assessed this week for what looked a painful ankle injury suffered after the defender rolled over on his foot in a challenge with Paddy Andrews.

Keane was light on information with regard to defenders Tom O’Sullivan and Gavin White, neither of whom made the match panel last Saturday, other than to say “they’re not far away at all”.

Former Kerry GAA treasurer Dermot ‘Weeshie’ Lynch will go up against John O’Sullivan from Clare for the position of Munster GAA treasurer this Friday at the Munster Council’s annual convention in the Old Ground Hotel, Ennis, Clare.
