Sem comfortable winners over Killorglin in Frewen

-

FREWEN CUP QUARTER-FINAL St Brendans 5-18 IS Killorglin 1-7

IS Killorglin, the 2019 champions, have had the better of it against the Sem in this grade in recent years, but John Buckley had a very young deck to deal from on this occasion whereas Sem manager

Kevin Cronin had a lot of aces in his hand and they all came up trumps on the day.

Cian Foley was the star of the show, and two goals from him along with 1-1 from Cian McMahon (1f) had the Sem in control early on.

With Liam Randles (2), Jack Clifford, and Aodhan O’Neill all splitting the posts, the game was all but over before Daire Murphy opened Killorglin’s account with a cracking goal. 3-5 to 1-0.

Foley and O’Neill stretched the lead before Eoghan Hassett pointed a free. Cian Foley took his tally to 2-2 before Ciarán O’Sullivan and Hassett (f) closed out the first half scoring, with St Brendans ahead by 3-8 to 1-3.

The third quarter brought little comfort. Cian Foley, Jack Clifford, and Liam Randles scored for Brendans before James Horgan got Killorglin off the mark. Goals from Cian McMahon (1-1) and Michael Moriarty, as well as points from the irrepressible Foley and Jack Clifford made it 5-14 to 1-4 at the three quarter mark and the Sem were still able to pick off points through Harry Byrne, Ethan O’Neill, Peter Cosgrave, and Michael Mullane while running their bench.
