Sympathy extended to the friends and family of the late Gerald Whyte

THE death occurred last weekend of Gerald Whyte of Causeway.

Throughout his life he was a dedicated hurling man and served the GAA in numerous capacities. Among his many roles were as Vice Chairman (1989) and Secretary (1981-84) of the Kerry County Board, Chairman (1973-78 & 1987-89) and Secretary (1969) of the North Kerry Hurling Board, Causeway Club Chairman and he was a selector and trainer of many Kerry hurling and Causeway Comprehensive School teams.

Sympathy is extended to his family on behalf of all hurling followers. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

NHL

AFTER their great away win over Mayo last Saturday, the Kerry senior hurlers will have their first home game in the Hurling League, Division 2A campaign on this Sunday, February 2. Their opponents will be Offaly with a 2pm starting time. Admission price is €10 with all Under 16s free of charge.

Fixtures

THE 2020 County senior hurling league Division 1 fixtures have been issued to clubs. Kilgarvan will be making a welcome return to Division 1 for 2020. The starting date is Sunday, March 15. However if Kerry do not get to the Allianz League Final, the first series of games will be played on Sunday, March 8. Division 2 gets underway on Wednesday, May 27.

The Kerry Senior Hurling Championship for 2020 will commence on Sunday, July 7. It will be followed by Round 2 on the weekends of July 12 & 18 and Round 3 on the weekend of July 26. The semi-finals are down for Saturday, August 8 with the County Senior Championship Final due to be played on Sunday, August 23.

The County Intermediate hurling championship will be played mid-week, with the preliminary round on Wednesday, 8 July and games each week until the Final on Wednesday, July 29. In the County Minor championship the early rounds will be played on Mondays, commencing on July 27 while the County Under 21 championship will commence on Saturday, August 29.

Referees

KERRY Camogie are running a referee conversion course on this Friday, January 31 at 7.30pm at Abbeydorney Sports Complex.

This course is open to all qualified hurling referees, which will enable them to referee camogie matches for the coming year. The GAA will be running a referees training course on three Friday evenings in February at the same venue, commencing on Friday, February 7.

Coaching

A FOUNDATION Level Coaching Course will take place on Saturday, February 15 in St Michaels College, Listowel at 10am.

This course is aimed at Coaches involved with teams from Under 6 to 12 and the content will focus on the developing players at this age group. The Foundation

Award is the introductory award for coaches of Gaelic Games.

The course is four hours in duration and covers four key modules – Introduction to Games; Skill Development; Movement Skills and Coaching Children, Youths and Adults.
