Castleisland U16s beaten in Club Cup

-

MUNSTER CLUB U-16 CUP GROUP 1 Castleisland 5 Cobh Pirates 21

THE scoreline doesn’t reflect the excellent performance from the home side in a game in which they were always going to find it difficult to get a result from. Cobh are favourites to win the competition outright and can actually field two U/16 teams as they draw from a panel of 50 players.

The powerful Cobh backrow was very impressive and caused Castleisland problems all day. This, allied to the massive physicality of their pack, laid the platform for the winners victory. The ball carrying Cobh forwards punched holes in the over worked Castleisland defence all day and the home side trailed 5-14 at half time with their try coming from Brian McEnery.

MUNSTER CLUB U-16 BOWL GROUP 3 Killorglin 7 Crosshaven 14

Crosshaven had too much firepower for Killorglin last Sunday. The Killorglin try scorer was Derry O’Sullivan and it was converted by Joe Cronin-Langham.

MUNSTER CLUB U-16 PLATE GROUP 1 Chorca Dhuibhne 36 Cashel 14

WHILST the scoreline indicates that this was a comfortable win for Corca Dhuibhne, the true story was that they were put to the pin of their collar by a resolute Cashel side and only managed to pull away in the last quarter.

Cashel had an extremely young side with their 14-year-old 6’ 7” no.8 the outstanding player on the field. The big man scored two tries and was hauled down just short of the line as he sought a third.

The Corca Dhuibhne scorers were Rob Sheehy (2 tries), Cathal Galvin, Cuan O Muirceartaihj, and Ronan Beaglaoich, whilst there were fine performances from James Fitzgerald, Sean O’Connor and Jack Curran.
