Cahernane wins big at CIE awards
HISTORIC HOUSE HOTEL SECURES A PRESTIGIOUS AWARD FOLLOWING WIDESPREAD APPROVAL FROM GUESTS
CAHERNANE House Hotel has been named Ireland’s best four-star hotel after scoring positive feedback from over 96 per cent of their 2,334 guests in the past year.
The country-house property received the status at the CIE Tours International Annual Awards of Excellence, which were held last week in Dublin’s Christ Church Cathedral.
General Manager Emer Corrigan accepted the award on behalf of the PREM Group-owned property and has vowed to build on the success.
“We are constantly working to improve our guest experience and offering,” Emer said.
“Our staff are passionate about hospitality, and our many repeat visitors are testament to the warm welcome, excellent service and memorable stay they experience.”
The property has had a rich history since being built in the 1870s as a family residence for Henry Herbert, at a cost of under £6,000.
It was originally planned to build a mansion treble the size of the original building, but the next generation of Herberts fell on hard times and it was decided to let the property out as a hotel.
Thus began a history as a hotel that lives on today on Muckross Road, in the vicinity of Killarney National Park and the Lakes, and a 22-minute walk from the town itself.
Today the Cahernane setup includes 12 bedrooms in the original manor house; 28 in the Garden Wing; and eight in the former Coach House.
“We are thrilled that one of our properties has won such a prestigious award,” PREM Group CEO Jim Murphy said of last week’s achievement.
“The CIE Tours International evaluation teams survey all their guests annually, many of whom have travelled from overseas.
“These guests are discerning, they expect high standards and are quite often seasoned travellers.
“The score achieved was fantastic, we are absolutely delighted,” he added.
