BIG HEARTS FOR KIDS IN CRUMLIN
VALENTINE’S Day was extra special at Loughquittane National School as the 101 pupils came together to celebrate the day by raising funds for a charity that is very close to their hearts.
The school chose Crumlin Children’s Hospital as the beneficiary of their latest fundraiser by taking part in an event they called ‘Opening our Hearts for Crumlin Children’s Hospital.’
The idea was that all pupils at the school could bring a heartshape to school or dress in red to mark Valentine’s Day while, at the same time, helping a very worthy charity.
The event was a huge success, and all the pupils outdid themselves with their wonderful red outfits and home-made hearts; indeed, the entire school was a sea of red last Friday.
Such was the success of the event that a total of €772 was raised for Crumlin Children’s Hospital, and this will go to help the children and the staff at the hospital.
“We wanted to open our hearts to the staff at Crumlin Children’s Hospital, who take such good care of the children,” teacher Alison Coffey explained to The Kerryman.
The pupils know how important the hospital is to children who are ill across the country, and they were delighted to help such a worthy cause.
The pupils at Loughquittane National School are no strangers to fundraising and have held a host of events to help charities – and, in particular, children’s charities.
They have raised funds for Down Syndrome Kerry through their annual ice-cream day, and they have also raised funds for Brú Columbanus – which provides accommodation for families in Cork while a loved one is in hospital.
