Did Bobby find love on ‘First Dates’?

- By FERGUS DENNEHY

HE put himself out there on national TV in the hope of finding love on last week’s ‘First Dates Ireland’ but Kenmare’s Bobby Tangney revealed that there doesn’t seem to be a viable future with his date, Dearbhla.

Despite having what he described as having a “brilliant” experience on the show, the issue of the long distance between Kenmare and Athboy in Meath – where his date, Dearbhla, is from – put paid to any long-term idea of a romance.

He did reveal, though, that the pair met up for a second date after the show and got on well; he said that if she’s ever in Cork or if he’s ever in Dublin, they’ve agreed to meet up for a coffee.

“On the show, it left on her getting a lift home from her mom, which might have made it seem obvious that I was getting the bullet, but what

I think some people might have missed was, despite it looking like there was no initial spark, we were getting on really well,” he said.

“I said I would see her again and she said the same, and so we did meet up again in Bunratty. We got on really well again but, I think for both of us, the biggest issue was the distance. Kenmare to Athboy, it’s a bit of a commute!” he joked.

Despite the line that they’d meet for a coffee again if they were ever in a similar part of the country to each other, Bobby is realistic in his thinking. He’s not despondent, though; he said that he was delighted to put himself out there and that the whole experience was a positive one. He added that people know he’s single now, and you never know what could happen down the line if someone sees him on a night out and starts chatting to him!
