David raises organ donor awareness
KERRY senior football captain, David Clifford, is offering his support to an on organ donor awareness walk in Killarney next month.
The walk is being held to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation and also to raise funds for the Kerry branch of the Irish Kidney Association.
Participants on the day will have three walk options to suit all abilities.
The first will be a stroll to Muckross school house, the second a walk in Muckross and Dinis and the more difficult option is a Torc Mountain Hike.
Patient officer, Theresa Looney, said that this event is hugely importance to get people thinking about donating organs and to have that all important conversation with a loved one.
“It is so important to raise awareness of organ donation and the importance it can make to someone’s life. While the walk will help raise funds the primary aim is to get people talking about organ donation and to talk to loved ones about their wishes.”
Supporting the walk is Tralee man Stephen Byrne, who knows first-hand how important organ donation have received a kidney in recent years.
His donation changed his life and he has been vocal in supporting organ donation.
He has even represented Ireland at the World Transplant Games following his donation.
The walk, was launched last week by David Clifford. It takes place on March 15 and registration will take place from 9.30am to 10.30am at the Muckross Park Hotel on the morning. Entry is €20 and refreshments will be served after the walk.
