Permission granted for work in St James’ and Dingle Town Park

-

TWO community projects in Dingle have taken a major step towards realisation with the granting of planning permission for the redevelopment of St. James’s Church and the development of an all weather pitch and running track in the Town Park by Kerry County Council.

St. James’s Church, a recognised venue for concerts over the past 25 years and the world famous spiritual home of the RTE television series Other Voices, has received planning permission for extensive repairs and the development of the historic church as a cultural and community space, including the installation of a bathroom the absence of which has seen music stars climb out the window to avail of facilities in nearby Benner’s Hotel or Paul Geaney’s. Friends of St. James’s, the group tasked with raising funds for the re-development of the church will hold their next fundraising event in May – a golf outing with a hybrid car as a prize for the first hole-in-one on the day... if there is one.

Meanwhile, Am Spraoi, led by Councillor Séamus Cosaí Mac Gearailt, will have a meeting with Kerry County Council officials following the granting of planning permission for their all weather pitch and sports facility in Dingle Town Park.

The plan is to remove the existing playground equipment and the tennis courts and to construct an all weather playing pitch, a 300-metre jogging track around the perimeter and 60 metre sprint lanes with run off area, changing rooms and facilities.

The site belongs to Kerry County Council and we will meet with Senior Management to discuss how best to proceed.” said Cllr Mac Gearailt.
