Garden visit up next for Kingdom in the national hurling league

FOLLOWING their 0-13 to 0-8 win over Meath last Saturday in Round 3 of the Allianz Hurling League, Division 2A, the Kerry senior hurlers will have another long away trip to on this Saturday when they face Wicklow in Round 4.

Venue is Pearse Park in Arklow where there will be a 2pm throwin time. Kerry are currently of the table with full points and a win this weekend would almost certainly ensure them of a place in the Final.

Kerry will finish out the League stages of the competitio­n with a home game against Antrim on Sunday, March 1 at Austin Stack Park, 12.30pm. The Division 2A Final is scheduled for Sunday, March 8.

Fixtures

FIXTURES details for Division 2 of the County Senior Hurling League have been circulated to the clubs.

The competitio­n has been divided into two divisions with 11 teams competing. Division 2A - Dr Crokes, Causeway, St Brendans, Lixnaw, Ballyheigu­e and Abbeydorne­y. Division 2B - Kenmare Shamrocks, Tralee Parnells, Kilmoyley, Crotta O`Neills and Lady’s Walk.

The competitio­n will commence on Wednesday, May 27 with further rounds on Wednesdays June 3, 10 and 24 and the last round on Wednesday, July 4. Kilgarvan have opted to play in Division 1 this year, while Crotta and Kilmoyley will amalgamate at minor and under 16 levels for 2020.

Sympathy

SYMPATHY is extended to the families of two former inter county players who died recently.

The late Joe O’Sullivan of Dingle was a former Kerry and Austin Stacks hurler. He played for fifteen years with the Stacks hurlers (1966-1980), playing in three losing County Hurling Finals – 1968, 1969 and 1974 and played with Kerry in the 1960/70s.

The late Brendan O’Connell of Causeway played with his local club and was a member of the Kerry hurling team that won the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championsh­ip in 1972 [they defeated Warwickshi­re in the Final by 5-5 to 2-9].

Clubs

TRALEE Parnells’ Under 6 boys and girls, Under 8 and Under 10 boys return to action at the Kerry Sports Academy (KSA) on this Friday, February 21 from 7 – 8pm.

Playing equipment is available. Cost of this six-week Spring academy is €15 to cover the hire of the hall.

Crotta Hurling Club will hold a Victory Social at Ballyroe Heights Hotel on this Friday, February 21 night next to honour their minor hurlers who won the County title in 2019.
