The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
ST BRENDANS THREE TO WATCH
MICHAEL LENIHAN, MIDFIELD
Michael Lenihan has already amassed a rare and spectacular medal collection that includes All Irelands in soccer (2015 Kennedy Cup), football (Kerry minor 2018) and hurling (Under 20 B All Ireland). The Sem struggled when he was out injured, not least because of the understanding that the
Crokes’ man has built up with his Legion counter-part Eoghan O’Sullivan. He is also well able to take a score from long range. His physicality is matched by quality football and great kick-passing that often ignites St Brendans’ attacks.
MARK COOPER, FULL BACK
The 2018 Kerry minor is one of the stickiest markers around, unwilling to yield an inch of space, and has gone one-onone against some of the best forwards in the competition so far. He already marked Tralee’s danger-man Seán Quilter in the group game between the teams, and this is highly likely to be an enthralling re-match. That said, he isn’t limited solely defensive, he can also read the game fast and isn’t afraid to take the ball forward when opportunity arises.
RYAN O’GRADY, FULL-FORWARD
Ryan started full-forward with fellow sharpshooters William Shine and Emmet O’Shea on either side. The switch out to the forward has really suited the Legion man though, giving him space and freedom to work with – his scoring rate has increased, if anything, while he is far more involved in open play and creates almost as much as he scores. A 2019 minor, Ryan was man of the match in the Under 21 County Championship Final, and not just because of his phenomenal accuracy from play and from frees.
