Kerry set to celebrate what is best in women’s soccer

-

These are hugely exciting times in women’s soccer with FIFA 20x20 and ‘If You Can’t See It You Can’t Be It’ placing that fastest growing area of the game in the spotlight.

With the qualifying tournament for this summer’s Gaynor Cup in UL (U-12, U-13 and U-15) underway the Girls section of the KSBGL have put together a day showcasing all that’s best in the game on and off the field.

The events take place at Georgie O’Callaghan Park, Castleisland on this Saturday February 22.

U-12 Girls Blitz

The day will begin with a number of Kerry clubs bringing their U-12 Girls to Georgie O’Callaghan

Park for a Blitz starting at 10am. The U-12 Emerging Talent Programme will begin in the next few weeks as the League will begin the work of putting together a squad for the Gaynor Qualifier in May. Kerry were one of the 4 Leagues that made it to UL two years ago and will be hoping to again reach the Gaynor’s 12 semi-finals and final.

Coaching Sessions

The Kerry U-13 and U-15 Girls ETP squads will enjoy a great opportunity to learn from two top coaches. Cork City manager Ronan Collins will take the U-13s from 2 to 3.30pm. Later on at 5.30pm the U-15s will do a session with the Irish U-17 manager James Scott. His girls just completed a very impressive series against Iceland. This session should also draw a large number of coaches working in the female game in the county and beyond.

WNL Games

Having played in the first So Hotels Women’s National League friendly in the county last year Cork City Women return to the Kingdom where they and their opponents DLR Waves continue their preparations for the new season. This game kicks off at 4pm.

Following on from the senior game Cork City’s u17 will take to the Castleisland Astro for a game against Wexford Youths with both sides eager to impress ahead of their season.

Tickets for the Day Tickets for the admission to all or a selection of the day’s events are only €5 and will allow you come and go as you wish and pick any combination of workshops and games. Any business that would like to purchase 10 tickets (€50) will also get a special photo taken for the Kerry Schoolgirls social media pages.

Director of Girls Football for the KSBGL Noel White is delighted with the way the game has come together. “This year we had record numbers attending for Assessments for the Gaynor squads and coupled with the growth of the Girls League we decided to put together a day of events to celebrate the Women’s game.

“We are delighted with the support we have got from the Women’s National League teams and from the hosts of the workshops. We know that the players, coaches and parents will get a lot from the day. As well as the players we are hoping that everyone with an interest in the Girls game in Kerry / West Limerick comes along and enjoys all or part of the day.

“Tickets can be ordered through our Facebook page or from any of the KSBGL members costing only €5.”
