Killorglin U-17s enter last eight of FAI Cup
FAI UNDER 17 CUP QUARTER-FINAL
Killorglin v Carndonagh United (Donegal) Sunday, February 23 in Killorglin at 11.30am
THE big stage beckons for the Killorglin under-17 team next Sunday when they host Donegal side Carndonagh in the quarter-final of the FAI Under-17 Cup.
It is a phenomenal achievement for the Launesiders to reach the last 8 in the national competition and while the tests are getting bigger with every game they will be hoping to keep the momentum going on Sunday and progress to the semi-final of the prestigious competition.
There have been very impressive in the national competition to date and have been tested to the limit all the way winning two of their games in penalty shoots
In the first round they hosted strong Clare side Avenue United and won 2-1.
In the second round they were at home to hot favourites Killarney Celtic and they won comfortably 5-2.
They were on their travels for the 3rd round away to Waterford side Southend United.
The game was deadlocked 2-2 after 90 minutes and extra time and Killorglin won 3-2 in the penalty shoot-out.
They played host to formidable Dublin side Belvedere FC in the 4th round and in a tight game that failed to produce a goal even after extra time they won the penalty shoot-out 5-4 with the goalkeeper Jack McGillycuddy the hero saving two spot kicks.
Their opponents have been very impressive in their path to the quarter final defeating a number of high profile sides along the way.
However Killorglin manager Robbie Evans will have his squad well motivated for the big game and they will be hoping to make home advantage count and big local support on the day could be what they need to win the big game.
It is certainly a game they are capable of winning if they play to their full potential so fingers crossed they can do the business on Sunday morning.
