TG4 goes behind the scenes at Puck Fair

-

TG4’S agricultural series Beidh Aonach Amárach broadcast its behind-the-scens visit to the greatest fair in the land - the one and only Puck.

And the character of the Kingdom people and the slice of God’s own country they call their own shone brightly through the lively edition of the popular TG4 programme, which visits fairs and festivals the length and breadth of the country.

Among the local characters featured on the show were Puck-mad Declan Mangan and his wife Anne, who’s nearly as passionate about Ireland’s oldest fair as himself. Beidh Aonach followed the couple on the hard task of organising it all.

Meanwhile John Pat Long of Ventry came east along the road to Mid-Kerry to engage in a little horse-trading, and to demonstrate some key horse-trading skills for the benefit of viewers. Dessy Cronin and his son David were interviewed promoting Kerry Social Farming – and bumping into Peter Crowley!

Musician Mike Dowd and musical friends were meanwhile left facing some very quick costume changes from playing music in Falvey’s Bar to taking up their positions in the Puck Fair parade.

“There are some quick costume changes for Mike Dowd from playing music in Falvey’s Bar to marching in parade. And one of the big questions posed by the show was whether or not ‘the traffic controller with the most difficult job on the planet’ Pat Healy manage to get King Puck through the town and up onto his throne in the sky?
