CONCERNS RAISED RE PLANNING PERMISSION
Councillor Michael Cahill has raised major concerns in regards to future Planning Permission for family members who wish to construct a house on the family holdings and has submitted a ‘’Notice of Motion’’ to a recent meeting of Kerry Co. Council requesting the Council to confirm that ‘’Project Ireland 2040’’ -the National Planning Framework which encourages more focused settlements in the country with cluster living around towns and villages will not change the policy in the new Co. Development Plan in respect of farmers sons and daughters and family members who wish to build on thr family holding. The Fianna Fail Councillor said he was extremely worried in regards to the implications ‘’Project Ireland 2040 -The National Planning Framework will have on future Co. Development Plans for family members who wish to build a house on the family holding, he stated farmers sons and daughters and family members should not be forced into towns and villages and we the Members need to ensure they are accomadated in the new County Development Plan and that the family farm must be protected.The Rossbeigh Councillor recieved the following reply, The National Planning Framework contains a number of objectives to support and strenghten rural towns and villages as part of the overallregenration of rural areas. Specifically in relation to housing in the countryside National Policy Objective 19 states Ensure in providing for the development of rural housing that a distintion is made between areas under urban influence i.e. within the commuter cathment if cities and large towns and centre of employment and elsewhere .
In rural areas under urben influence, facilatate the provision of single houses in the countryside based on the core consideration of domonstrable economic and social needs to live in a rural area and siting and design critirea for rural housing in statutory guidelines and plans, having the viability of smaller towns and rural settlements. Further guidance to assist Planning Authorities in the formulation of planning policy as part of the review revised Co. Development Plan guidelines to be issued by the Minister shortly. The review of the next Co Development Plan which is due to commence in the second quarter of this year must be consistant with National Planning Framework, the Regional Spatial and Econimic Strategy and any guidelines issued by the Minister under section 28 of the Planning and Development Act.

HANDBALL CLUB
Irish nationals Dominick Lynch travelled to Westport Co. Mayo last weekend to play in the Irish nationals open singles competition. He beat Paul Moran Kildare in the last 16, 15-8. 15-7, but lost out to Diarmuid Nash, Clare in the quarter final 15-13. 15-9.
CUMANN NA MBUNSCOIL - The Munster Cumann na mBunscoil singles and doubles competition was played in Nenagh and Kilcolman, Co Tipperary on Sunday. The following players represented Kerry, Maggie Quirke, Aidan Sheehan, Dara O’Connor, Lucas Riordan, Clodagh Quirke. They gave great performances but had no success against Cork, Clare and Limerick teams.
One wall: Dominick Lynch, JJ Quirke, Jack O’Shea will travel to London, England this coming weekend to play in the 1 wall European championship.
FIXTURES - Junior B doubles Tommy Quirke and Jason McKenna will play Tipperary in the Munster junior B doubles quarter final this Saturday 22nd in Glenbeigh at 1pm. All support welcome.
