HANDED DOWN
“The Monks of the Screw North Cork’s finest” is the title of a presentation being made by Newmarket fiddle player Eoin Stan O Sullivan at The Handed Down series in The Sliabh Luachra Heritage Centre on Saturday night next February 22, commencing at 8pm. Eoin will take a look at the very influential and successful group who were formed in the mid 1990s from playing sessions in Scully’s Bar in Newmarket. Special guests on the night include: Jim Barry Seanachaí, Newmarket ; Claire O Loughlin, fiddle, Millstreet ; Michelle Ann Houlihan, tin whistle, Ballyduff. Young musicians: Millstreet and Dromtariffe Group (16 members), , Ballyduff.
DRAMA
To describe the Sliabh Luachra Drama Groups presentation of the three act comedy “It’s the Real McCoy” as being brilliant, superb and highly entertaining is a bit of an understatement really. This group’s production of the Tommy Marren play was an outstanding and resounding success which packed the Heritage Centre night after night with ten performances in all. All the actors were excellent, but one in particular has to be singled out and that is Moira Hughes who gave an Oscar winning performance as “Madge Molloy” in this hilariously funny comedy. Hats off to you all folks for some great laughs. For the record the following was the cast: Madge Moira Hughes , Maura Mary Fleming, Nora O Hora Lorraine Salmon, Cora O Hora Ciara Kerin, Martin Danny O Leary, Fr. McCoy John Walsh, Tom Molloy Tim Dineen and the production team was : Producer Geraldine Pigott, Stage Manager Michelle Daly, Lighting Design Danny O Leary, Lighting and Sound Shay and Nora Walsh, Set Construction David Fleming, Declan O Connell, Danny O Leary, Jerry and Sarah Pigott, Advertising Seanie Hughes. The group have decided to put on two final nights on this Thursday 20th and Sunday 23rd of February.
SAMARITANS COLLECTION
The annual Christmas Samaritans collection in Scartaglen came to E714.54. Sincere thanks is due to all who contributed so generously and a special word of thanks also to those who helped take up the collection.
DEATH
The death took place last week of Frank Coffey of Killarney Road, Castleisland who was originally from Coolnageragh. The deceased who was 83 had been ill for some time. He was employed as a driver by Kerry County Council for a long number of years. The late Frank is survived by his wife Roseanne, by his daughters Elaine, Annemarie and Michelle, by his sisters Eily Mai, Anne and Betty and by his brothers Tom and Jerry. Cremation took place in Shannon Crematorium. May he Rest In Peace.

Scartaglen Ladies Football Club will hold their annual church gate collection this weekend at masses in Scartaglen, Cordal and Castleisland. Your support would be appreciated.
GAA REGISTRATION NIGHT
Scartaglen GAA Club are holding another registration night in The Clubhouse on this Friday night February 21st from 6.30pm 7.30pm. Registration will be for senior club membership / registration and for Coiste na nOg. AIR AMBULANCE FUNDRAISER On Sunday next February 23rd there is a fundraising event for the Air Ambulance Service at Star Trax Music Venue, Knocknagree. Providing the entertainment for the afternoon (2.30pm 5.30pm) will be Laura Dunlea and Pat Daly. Admission is E10 and it’s for a very worthy cause.
ACTIVE RETIRED NETWORK
The Sliabh Luachra Active Retired Network consists of older persons groups in the Castleisland/Sliabh Luachra area. The network organisers monthly tea dances, positive ageing events, holiday physical and mental stimulation activities and have a Community Choir.
