Early start for hurlers against Antrim this Sunday afternoon

THE Kerry senior hurlers remain on top of the Allianz Hurling League, Division 2A following their 1-20 to 1-12 win over Wicklow last Saturday in Round 4. Kerry will finish out the League stages of the competitio­n with a home game against Antrim on this Sunday, 1 March at Austin Stack Park, 12.30pm.

Senior Hurling dates

THE dates for the 2020 Kerry County Senior Hurling Championsh­ip are as follows: Round 1 Sunday, July 5; Round 2 - Sunday, July 12 & Saturday, July 18; Round 3 - Sunday, July 25; Semi-finals Saturday, August 8.

The Kerry County Senior & Minor Hurling Championsh­ip Finals are scheduled for Sunday, August 23. In the Munster Intermedia­te Club Hurling Championsh­ip (quarter-final) the Kerry senior champions will be away to the Clare intermedia­te winners on Saturday, November 1.

Clubs

AT the Crotta Hurling Club Social last Friday, the club celebrated winning the 2019 county minor hurling championsh­ip – their third in four years.

The victorious minor hurling panel received their County Championsh­ip medals from special guest Richie McCarthy, Limerick 2018 All Ireland Senior medal winner and 2013 All Star. The club’s Hall of Fame award [the Matt and PJ Stack Memorial Trophy] was presented to former long serving player and life long supporter Mike Leen.

Mike was a member of the last Crotta team to win a County senior championsh­ip back in 1968. The

Senior Hurler of the Year went to club and county star Shane Nolan. Cillian Trant was chosen as the Minor Hurler of the Year [Monty McElligott Memorial Trophy]; Intermedia­te player of the year was Jack Twomey [Maurice Egan Memorial Award] while Tomás O’Connor was honoured as Under 21 Player of the Year [Diarmuid Galvin Memorial Award]. Finally, the Crotta Club Person of the Year Award went to Paul Sheehan [Sam

Hilliard Memorial Trophy]. Well done to all involved. Week 2 of the Tralee Parnells Under 6 boys & girls, Under 8 and Under 10 boys Spring Hurling Academy continues at the Kerry Sports Academy (KSA) on this Friday, February 28 from 7 – 8pm.
