The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Looking for something to do? Cook with the Treyvauds
WELL-KNOWN restaurateur and chef Paul Treyvaud is familiar to many from his TV cooking appearances, and now, to help everyone who is cooped up indoors during the current shut-down, he is inviting families to start cooking with him.
The Killarney chef, who runs Treyvaud’s restaurant in the town, last week began live cooking videos in a bid to get the whole family together, and such has been the success of the online series, it has reached up to 2million people to date.
What began as an experiment by the Killarney chef has now become a hugely popular event for families, with hundreds requesting recipes and joining in to cook with Paul Treyvaud and his family.
‘Cooking with the Treyvauds’ can be found on Paul Treyvaud’s Facebook page and the next one, tomorrow, Wednesday, March 25, will see everyone come together to cook Carabonara.
Paul lists all the ingredients needed and then provides step-by-step instructions for families to come together and cook the chosen dish.
“Schools are closed, and people are stuck at home, so cooking dinner together can be fun,” said Paul.
“I wanted families to turn off the TV and cook together while all this is going on,” he added, and his plan has worked as there has been huge interest in the online cooking demonstrations.
Last Sunday, on Mother’s Day, he demonstrated how to make pancakes and roast chicken.
Next up is Carbonara, following requests, and previously chicken curry was on the menu.
Paul hopes to continue to cook the public’s favourite dishes in the coming weeks.
“It is a way to give back,” he said, adding that “it will hopefully keep people entertained as well”.
The Killarney chef also has his cook-along videos and other previous cooking demonstrations on YouTube and is encouraging everyone to tune in online for more recipes, demonstrations and, of course, plenty of fun.
Paul is thrilled with the response to date and, like many other restaurant owners and chefs who have been forced to close amid the current pandemic, he is using his time to help others eat healthily during shut-down and learn a new skill that will stand to them in the future.
Paul has previously appeared on Virgin Media with his own show having been spotted for his kitchen talents following guest appearances on Ireland AM.
‘Treyvaud’s Kitchen’ focused on proper cooking methods and proper ingredients mixed in with some fun, and this series is based on a very similar vein.
But this time it will help keep Kerry and Killarney on the map during the crisis.
