Shannon Rangers and Feale Rangers

A county championsh­ip history

• Shannon Rangers have won the County SFC on five occasions – 1942, 1945, 1964, 1972 and 1977. They beat Feale Rangers in the 1977 decider. They were also County SFC runner-up on four occasions, in 1948, 1953, 1971 and 1974.

• The Shannon Rangers team that played against Feale Rangers in the 1977 county final to win the district’s most recent County SFC title, was John McCarthy, Donie Mulvihill, Paud O’Donoghue, Bryan McCarthy, Conor Heaphy, Michael McEllistri­m, Denis ‘Ogie’ Moran, Jackie Walsh, Eoin Liston, Barry Walsh, Padraig Liston, Michael Keane, Eamonn O’Donoghue, Gearóid Griffin and Joe Casey, with substitute Barry O’Connor coming on.

• In 1964 the Munster Club Senior Football Championsh­ip was inaugurate­d, and Shannon Rangers won the first provincial title after they beat Cooraclare from Clare in the final. That game wasn’t played until July 1965, when Shannon Rangers - the 1964 Kerry champions - beat Cooraclare by 2-7 to 0-4 in the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick. The competitio­n at that stage did not extend to an All-Ireland Club Championsh­ip.

• Shannon Rangers have never won the County Under-21 FC. Their last victory in the County Minor FC was in 1991, having also won it in 1973 and 1974..

• Between 1977 and 1985, Feale Rangers contested the County SFC final on six occasions, lifting the Bishop Moynihan Cup in 1978 and 1980. Their third - and most recent - championsh­ip title victory in the competitio­n came in 2007 when they beat South Kerry in the final.

FEALE Rangers were beaten in county SFC finals in 1959, 1962, 1977, 1982, 1983, 1985 and 1999.

• Feale Rangers’ last victory in the County Under-21 FC was in 1998, and the last time the divisional side got their hands on the County Minor FC title was in 1983.

• The Feale Rangers team in 2007 that last brought the Bishop Moynihan Cup to North Kerry was Shane Quinn (Emmets); John Mulvihill (Moyvane), Pat Corridan (Finuge), Kieran Quirke (Duagh); Declan Griffin (Duagh), Eamonn Fitzmauric­e (Finuge), Brendan Guiney (Emmets); Brendan Whelan (St Senans), Maurice Corridan (Finuge); Enda Galvin (Finuge), Paul Galvin (Finuge), Anthony Maher (Duagh); Derek Galvin (Emmets), Noel Kennelly (Emmets), Brian Scanlon (Emmets).
