The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
MOUNTCOLLINS
IN ISOLATION
Like the rest of the country our parish is in a state of isolation due to the corona virus. Thankfully there are no reports of an outbreak in the locality. People are acting responsibly with the closure of schools and pubs, church services on hold as well as all sporting and cultural events being cancelled for the foreseeable future. We are fortunate we can travel to avail of the Chemist and Grocery shops as well as medical facilities if needed.
We are indebted to the workers who we probably took for granted up to now as they continue to provide a valuable service for all in these extraordinary times. The local GAA club has volunteered its services to the people of the parish who may be housebound and in need of shopping, medical or fuel supplies.
The club can be contacted through Chairman, Eric O Connor at 087-2230580 or Secretary, John O Connell at 086-1928334. We can all come through this pandemic if we heed the advice of the medical and government professionals.
NEW GARDAI
Two locals were amoung the 319 Gardai who were sworn in as members of the force at the Garda Training College in Templemore on Friday last. Congratulations to Irene Dillane, Daughter of Marie and Tom Dillane, Secontglas, Mountcollins who will be based in Rathkeale and Máire Lyons, daughter of a Nora and John Lyons, High Rd, Mountcollins who will be based in Limerick City.
Máire is the second member of her family to join the force and brings the number of serving members from the parish to eleven, a large member from a small corner of the county.
RECENT DEATH
Locals were saddened to hear of the tragic death in a road accident last week of Mary O Sullivan, Kanturk, Co. Cork. Mary was well known to many in the parish as she taught Irish dancing in the local National Schoolfor twenty five years.
Along with her dancing tuition Mary was always willing to help in preparations for school concerts, Scór na Nóg competitions and Community Games Talent Shows. Her bubbly character endeared her to all. Sympathy I’d extended to all her family and friends. May she Rest in Peace.
