Maycon employees are back at work

TWELVE workers from the ill-fated Maycon Mouldings factory, which was burnt to the ground over a week ago, were back at work this Thursday in a temporary premises at the Klopman headquarte­rs in Clash.

Tralee SIPTU official Donal Tobin confirmed to The Kerryman that a deal was agreed on a six-month lease between Maycon Managing Director Pat,McConkey and managment at Klopman.

The Maycon workers have already moved their machinery into part of the Klopman plant, Twelve workers went back to work this Thursday with the remaining 16 due to return to work next week.

Mr Tobin said Maycon had also applied for planning permission to build a new factory at the industrial estate in Monavalley, Tralee.

“I think it is remarkable that a company which went through, such bad luck can completely turn the situation around and be back in production again in just over a week,” he said.

He added that Shannon Developmen­t has indicated that it will provide financial assistance to Maycon to help the company to get back in production. The exact extent of this financial assistance is not yet known, he said.

A Klopman spokesman confirmed to The Kerryman this Thursday that the company would be leasing part of its premises at Clash to Maycon for a six-month period. He would not reveal the financial details of the leasing deal between the two companies, stating that it was a private transactio­n between the two parties.

The former headquarte­rs of Maycon Mouldings at Rock Street was completely gutted in a fire on Sunday, March 26.

A garda forensic team is still trying to establish the exact cause of the blaze.
