COVID-19:

The country is in the grip of a public health alert which is affecting the whole world. It is most encouraging to see people practicing social distancing and observing the 2KM rule in relation to exercising.

As it is going to be vital to adhere to regulation for the foreseeable future, Ballydonoghue GAA and local Gardai are available to collect and deliver shopping, medication, etc to anyone who needs it.

Club Together is a new initiative by GAA and Supervalu/Centra stores nationwide to ensure that nobody is left out in these unprecedented times.

Please contact any member of Ballydonoghue GAA and also, local Gardai are providing assistance to many people who are self-isolating, just staying indoors or living in remote areas, ensuring they have meds and supplies delivered when needed.

Please contact Listowel on 068-50820 or 068-21000 or Ballybunion on 068-27104. The Gardai stress that it is no bother and nobody should feel under pressure at times like this.

Pharmacies are also organising their own deliveries and it is advisable to give them seventy-two hours notice of requirements if possible.

DEATHS:

The death has occurred of Ann Walsh (nee Fitzmaurice, Farnastack), Doohoma, Belmullet, Co Mayo. She was predeceased by her husband, Tony, brothers, Mikey Joe and Sean, and her sister, Mary. Sympathy is extended to her daughters, Anna, Bernice and Cathy, her son, Owen, her brother, Tommy (Geesala, Co Mayo) and to their extended families, her neighbours and friends.

The news of the passing last weekend of Mossie Cantillon, (Moneen), Floral Park, NY was met with great sadness in Ballydonoghue.

Mossie and his late wife, Peggy and their family were regular visitors to Moneen where they had a summer residence. Mossie, along with the Purtill brothers (Ballydonoghue) and Fr Tim Dowling, did major fundraising in NY for the Denis Dowling GAA Park, enabling the debt to be cleared ahead of the official opening in 1987. Mossie was a gentleman to his fingertips, endearing himself to young and old alike.

Sympathy is extended to his daughters, Marie, Mairead, Mona and Marian, his late son, Michael’s family, his sisters, Peggy (Flahive, Moneen), Helen and Jim (Keating, Tralee), his niece, Margaret and Dan Lane, Moneen, the Schumacker family, Switzerland, to their extended families, his neighbours, especially in Moneen, and his many friends both here and the US.

He was predeceased by his wife, Peggy, his son, Michael (2019), his brother, Timmy and his sister, Nora Schumacker.

May they rest in peace.
