The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Rose was a true lady with a gentle manner who had a smile for everyone
AFTER a brave battle with a very difficult illness, Rose Jameson (neé Hennebery) of Abbeydorney and formerly of Castlecountess, Tralee passed away peacefully on March 7 th, at the age of 72.
Rose was born on February 24th, 1948 to Tom and Maud (neé Reynolds), the seventh of eight children, and had a wonderful childhood growing up in Manor, Tralee before the family moved to Castlecountess in later years. Rose had a very close relationship with all her siblings and as a family they regularly enjoyed gatherings such as fishing trips, days out at race meetings, attending dinner dances and trips to the Isle of Man. Tom and Maud instilled strong family values in Rose and also taught her the importance of enjoying life. Fortunately Rose remained close to all her family throughout her life and never lost these important lessons and values.
Rose made true and meaningful friendships growing up in Tralee and would fondly recount tales and stories of adventures and times spent with her friends. These special and unique friendships stood the test of time and she kept in regular contact with these lifelong friends. It is a testament to these friendships that it was these same friends who supported, comforted and kept her spirits up in her final months. Rose worked in the Munster Warehouse in Tralee for many years and was a natural in a customer service environment - she was always pleasant, friendly and a peoples’ person. She often spoke fondly of her time working there and of her respected colleagues.
In 1969, Rose met and fell in love with Roscommon man Gerry Jameson on one of his trips to Kerry. Rose and Gerry moved to London later that year, where they ran a successful pub & restaurant in Piccadilly, Snow’s Chop House. In 1971, they made a trip home to get married in St. John’s church in Tralee and then in 1972 they permanently returned to Ireland and later the same year their first child, Mark, was born. Rose was a natural mother and, later in life, grandmother. In time, Mark was joined by four sisters and a brother – Michelle, Deirdre, Barry, Noelle and Amanda. Just like she did with her parents and siblings, Rose had an extremely close bond with her children throughout their lives and ensured she made lots of cherished memories with each of them right up until her death.
Rose had a very gentle manner and was a caring, good-natured person who always had a kind word for everybody and was very well liked by extended family, neighbours and friends. Rose loved nature, the outdoors, and her garden, which brought her much pleasure throughout her life. She had a great eye for fashion so loved an excuse to dress up. Her weekly An Ríocht ProBus meetings brought her joy and gave her an opportunity to spend time with friends, both new and old, from Tralee. Rose loved travelling and going on holiday and had visited many parts of this country with Gerry and other family members. Her journeying and friendships were not confined to this country alone and Rose enjoyed visiting many countries.
Rose was a devoted and adoring grandmother and loved nothing more than spending time with her 10 grandchildren and spoiling each of them. They have very fond memories of spending time with their beloved granny. Rose and Gerry enjoyed numerous holidays, days out, picnics and even a glamping trip in the company of their grandchildren. Playing in granny’s garden is sure to become a valued memory in years to come. Rose’s grandchildren were her greatest joy and the wonderful memories she created will remain with them forever.
Rose is survived by her children, grandchildren, daughter-in- law, sons-in -law, sisters, brothers, relatives and many friends.
Her family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Kerry Palliative Care Unit for the remarkable and unsurpassed care they gave Rose for her last few months. Rose lay in repose at her residence until funeral mass in St. Bernard’s church Abbeydorney on Tuesday March 10th. She was laid to rest alongside her beloved husband Gerry in Kyrie Eleison Abbey. Details of her month’s mind mass will be announced at a further date.
