Boyle a founder

-

ALBERT Boyle is one of the founder members of the club and, while he is taking a back seat now, he still follows the fortunes of the club every week with huge interest during the playing season.

“Back in the late 1980s a bunch of us used to be kicking around the ball in the evenings and weekend and in 1989 we sat down and sized up the possibility of joining the KDL.

“My brothers Charlie and Andrew as well as Tom Flynn, Seán Costello, Mike Carroll, Noel Lawlor became the people who got the club off the ground. We coaxed a few more players to join up with us and in January of that year we formed the club. Most people did not have phones at that time and most of the messages were passed on by word of mouth.

“Most of the players were only in their teens but they had great interest in the game and the thoughts of playing at competitive level really appealed to them. I was playing myself and a number of years down the road I became player manager of the team. We were very lucky to have the community field in the village at our disposal and it became our home pitch.

“Winning silverware helped us along the way and down the road we put underage teams in place which was a great asset to the club. New people came on board as time progressed and the club grew in stature.

“We are going very well this season and sit top of the table at present in Division 1B. We will be hoping to make it to the league final if the season gets up and running again. It is important to keep the momentum going and strive to bring more silverware to the parish.”
