‘RUN THE RING’ FOR KME
AT a time of year when they should be in the midst of their annual fundraiser for the Dónal Walsh LiveLife Foundation, instead, due to COVID-19, the members of the Kerry Middle East (KME) GAA club now find themselves this year having to think outside the box.
After getting their thinking caps on and not wanting the LiveLife Foundation to lose out on fundraising, they have since come up with their ‘Run The Ring Of Kerry’ fundraising challenge.
The club is based in Dubai, and with the easing of some of the COVID-19 restrictions due to Ramadan, this meant that people are now permitted to get outside and exercise. This was the spark that gave the KME club the idea for their challenge.
Seán Corbett is the Chairman of KME GAA, and he got in touch with us here in The Kerryman to tell us more about it:
“We have a club here located in Dubai called Kerry Middle
East GAA, and normally at this time of year we’d be involved, along with The Middle East Kerry Society, in organising a friendly tournament to raise funds for The Dónal Walsh Foundation, but obviously this year that’s not possible,” said Seán.
“Instead we came up with the ‘Run the Ring of Kerry’ idea, and it’s simple really. People just have to track a run on their smartphone or smartwatch and then post it on social media with the @ KERRYMEGAA @DONALWALSHLIVELIFE #RUNROK #LIVELIFE tags and then donate whatever they can over on the Dónal Walsh website (www.donalwalshlivelife. org),” he continued.
Seán is hoping that, together, the members of the club will rack up the minimum of 180km, which is the distance of the Ring of Kerry here at home.
Additionally, the club will be donating 1,000 AED (€250) to the foundation on top of this.
People can take part in the challenge at any time.
