Fennel a fixture

THE manager of the team is Tony Fennel who lives a short distance from the pitch. He played for a season in goals with the team, but took over as team manager two years ago. He says that they have a very strong committee who do a lot of work behind the scenes.

“Our PRO Stephen Donegan has done a great job with our big fund-raiser ‘last man standing’ competition and he has other funding ideas up his sleeve. Of course, our chairman Micheál Dennehy is a true legend who has been the heart and soul of the club since it was formed.

“When I took over as manager I tried to recruit new players so that we could challenge for the league title/ I managed to get a couple of players from Tarbert and Moyvane this season and at the time that the Covid-19 brought everything to a stop we were in the good position and in with a chance of securing promotion. ,We are lucky to have great sponsors in Heaphy’s Centra Supermarket, Fast Fix Doors in Moyvane and Boyd Painters. We got great help from the local Community Employment Scheme.

“We secured a few grants which enabled us get sets of posts, a lawnmower and lighting for team training. We are lucky that our grounds are in a good location plenty of parking as well.

“While we will be keeping our fingers crossed that were can qualify for the league final we will also be hoping to have a good run in the cup competitions when the season is up and running again.
