RETIREMENT

Best wishes for a long, happy, healthy and enjoyable retirement are extended to John O Donoghue of Knockrour West who retired some time ago from the staff of Garvey’s Supervalu Castleisland. John had over 20 years service with the Castleisland firm. Enjoy your new found freedom John. DEATH The death took place unexpectedly recently of Michael (Mike) Horan of Direen. The late Michael had been engaged in farming for a long number of years and was a very popular member of the local community. The deceased is survived by his sisters Bridie and Joan and by his brothers John, William, Neilus, Pat, Jerry, Timmy, Dan and Denis and by the extended family. The late Michael was laid to rest in Scartaglen Cemetery. May he Rest In Peace.

ROAD IMPROVEMENT WORKS

Kerry County Council is currently carrying out improvement works on the Direen road, which include the cleaning out of roadside dikes and opening water tables, as well as cleaning up in the vicinity of Direen Bridge. In times of heavy rain water is inclined to come out onto this road, so the work being carried out should

help considerably to alleviate this problem.

SUMMER WEATHER

The weather over the past 6 or 7 weeks has been really wonderful with warm sunny days and blue skies and it certainly has helped to lift our spirits in these unprecedented, difficult, challenging and restrictive times that we find ourselves in. From a farming point of view, it has been ideal weather for silage harvesting, hay making and slurry spreading and excellent too for the saving of turf. The one drawback of course is that growth has been restricted due to the long dry spell with little rain falling. Anyhow it’s a time to make the most of this lovely summer weather and enjoy it while it lasts. To cap a great spell of weather, Met Eireann have stated that it has been the driest Spring on record.
