Tributes paid to ‘true gentleman’ Conor Cusack’

TRALEE RUNNER’S SUDDEN DEATH LEAVES A HOLE IN THE LIVES OF ALL WHO WERE BLESSED TO MEET HIM

-

THE sudden death of wellknown Tralee runner Conor Cusack this week has left a gaping hole in the lives of his friends and family.

Tributes have flowed in for the Tralee man, who was described as a pure gentleman and a wonderful friend to all those who were lucky enough to know him.

Conor had friends right across the world – many of them through his love of running. He had managed reach the amazing milestone of running more than 100 marathons, but that was only a small part of the miles that Conor had ran over the years and right across the world, even completing some of the major world marathons. He was an inspiration to many in the running world abroad and here at home in Kerry, and all those who ran with him have been devastated at the news of his death.

Conor worked for the Department of Justice and was the youngest in a family of six, all of whom have been left devastated by the loss of their loving brother. His kind heart and loving nature were not only evident to those who ran beside him, but also through his volunteer work with various organisations, not least with the Kerry Hospice Foundation. He was the back-bone of the organisation for many years.

“It is with profound shock and sadness that the members of Kerry Hospice heard of the sudden death of our wonderful friend and volunteer Conor Cusack,” said current PRO Andrea O’Donoghue. “I took on the job of assistant PRO a few years back, and when Conor took a step back to concentrate on other projects...he passed his magic baton on to me, and it was a daunting task to take over from him.

“However being the obliging guy that he was, he talked me through it all, and he was always available to help and assist me in any way, a true gentleman,” she said.

A private funeral will take place on Thursday morning and will be broadcast live from St J ohn’s Church at 10am.
