The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)

‘Sean’ often travelled back to see Kerry play

- John Carmody, originally Ballybunion

JOHN ‘Sean’ Carmody, aged 79, of Sunnyside, Queens in New York, passed away on May 6 at Mt Sinai Hospital in Queens after a brief illness.

Sean was born in Ballybunion, Ireland, to Catherine and John Carmody on March 1, 1941.

He went to school in Ireland until he emigrated to the States when he was 19. Sean was one of the hardest-working union members in construction. He was extremely generous to all who were lucky enough to know him. Sean loved watching sport, and his passion was to watch and follow the Kerry team. He travelled to Croke Park in Dublin to watch his favourite team on numerous occasions and to see many victories for Kerry.

Sean is survived by his sisters, Noreen Burt (Ed), Bridie and Marianne Carmody; and by his brothers, Dan (Eileen), Mossie (Valerie), Tommy (Maureen), Mick, James and Denis (Anne) Carmody. He leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Sean also leaves behind a special friend, Margie Kiernan. He is preceded in death by his parents and dearly loved brother, Patsy Carmody; and sister, Mary Carmody, who sadly died at the age of just two.

Funeral service and burial will be held locally and in Ireland at a time to be determined. Due to the magnitude of Coronavirus, there is no viewing, and Edward Lynch Funeral Home in Sunnyside, NY, will be handling the funeral arrangements. You may visit their website to leave the family a message.

Sean will be sadly missed by his family and his many friends, who he always enjoyed to have the ‘craic’ with him. We will cherish the good times, happy memories, and may Sean rest in peace.
