Long-serving officer is man with the purse strings

THE treasurer of the club is Eamon Collins and he has been involved for over three decades. He played for the team for a long time and later got involved at administrative level. He served for a long period as chairman and he is now settled in charge of the finances of the club.

“We are very lucky as we are in the black and all our facilities are fully paid for. We are extremely grateful to the local community for their generous support to all our fund raising ventures. Our Lottery has been a great success over the years and the Lord Mayor of Asdee competition was also very good to us.

“We had some great days travelling to matches in the late Neilie Keane’s mini-bus and we rarely came home without calling to The Mighty Dollar in Listowel or Auntie Peg’s in Ballyduff. We are very fortunate to have a very passionate group of people involved in the club who are all good friends and give great commitment and dedication to the club.

“The local bars have been very good to us over the years and other business people were never shy of lending their assistance.

“We are always on the look out for new fundraising ideas and a few ideas are currently under consideration.”

The overheads of running a club are much bigger than most people realise with registration fees, Public Liability Insurance Referees Fees, and electricity charges on clubhouse have to be met.

“It has been a privilege to work with my colleagues down through the years and it is great to have all the local community behind us. Sadly we lost a few people who passed away before their time and they include the late Joe Horgan, Paddy Keane, Paudie Griffin and Rick Harty.

“We have plenty more objectives to pursue to ensure that everyone who wants to play the game will be looked after safe in the knowledge that they will have they will have the best of facilities at their disposal.”
